C114 News, October 10 (Nanshan) — How hot is the optical interconnect market right now? It is not just optical modules and optical fiber and cable; upstream optical components and materials are also seeing a surge in demand.
Last evening, Shenzhen Zhishang Technology Co., Ltd. announced that it recently signed a "2027 Demand Forecast Cooperation Memorandum" with customer PH. For 2027, customer PH expects to purchase optical fiber connectors (MPO optical fiber patch cords and other optical communication products) from the company, with a total forecast demand target of US$500 million (approximately RMB 3.346 billion). The 2027 demand forecast is intended solely for annual supply chain coordination and capacity reservation between the two parties. Final supply, settlement and delivery plans shall be based on purchase orders formally issued by customer PH and confirmed by both parties.
For context, the company reported revenue of RMB 998 million in 2025, of which optical communication business revenue was RMB 561 million, up 16.60% year on year. In other words, this single order is worth six times the optical communication business of last year!
Zhishang Technology previously said that its Vietnam optical communications product manufacturing base, established in an earlier phase, has reached full production.
Optical fiber connectors are passive optical devices and a key component of optical communications equipment. They are used mainly to join fiber lines, connect the output port of an optical transmitter or the input port of an optical receiver to optical fiber, and link fiber lines to other optical components, enabling low-latency, ultra-high-speed data transmission. Applications include data centers, telecom equipment rooms, 4G&5G outdoor base stations, FTTH and more.
Once dismissed by major players as a low-barrier, fiercely competitive niche, fiber optic connectors have opened up a whole new blue ocean as demand for optical interconnects surges.
