Fraunhofer IAF Diamond Laser System Achieves 100% Optical Contrast for Magnetic-Field Readout

Researchers at Fraunhofer IAF have demonstrated a diamond NV-center laser-threshold magnetometer achieving 100% optical contrast and coherent laser readout of up to 50 mW. Under photon-shot-noise-limited conditions, the sensitivity of each of the three components of the magnetic-field vector can be below 400 fT/√Hz. Compared with conventional NV fluorescence sensors and vapor-cell magnetometers, the system improves the ratio of the sensitivity limit to dynamic range by up to 590 times while retaining vector measurement capability.

How the Mantis Shrimp's Eye Detects Color

The research team analyzed 17 visual pigments in the mantis shrimp eye and found that two red-absorbing rhodopsins can be switched on and off by red and blue light. In total, four rhodopsins showed bistability, and two additional blue-light rhodopsins could be switched by blue and orange light. The study was published in Sci. Adv. (doi: 10.1126/sciadv.aef5666). After optimization, these receptors could be used as optogenetic molecular switches to study human G signaling pathways.

Huawei AI Glasses Update Adds Parking Lot QR Payment and Head Gesture Payment

Huawei AI Glasses have added Alipay QR code payment for parking lots and head gesture-controlled payment, along with a 5-minute continuous recording option. Parking payment requires binding a license plate in the Look feature of the Huawei Eyewear app, while head gesture payment must be enabled in settings; the connected phone must run HarmonyOS 7.0 or later. The update also improves head gesture call recognition accuracy and optimizes battery life and system stability in some scenarios.
